The Motion Picture Home: Still needs saved!

Remember how the horrible big wigs of Hollywood wanted to kill the Motion Picture Home, which was founded by silent film stars?  They still do.  But Saving the Lives of Our Own has held off the closure for over a year.  Nothing is official yet, but the fight rages on.  If you want to help click here.

I'm a little tickled as they asked me to write a piece on the history of the home and the silent stars involved.  So I did.  And naturally it was so long and awesome they had to split it into two pieces, as neither side could decide what to cut out.  They gave me a little banner and everything.

So part 1 is here "Mary Pickford and the Origins of the Motion Picture Fund".  Part 2 I believe will run tomorrow.  It involves Mae Murray and Karl Dane so you know it'll be good.

Very eloquently written, everything in the article falls into place so beautifully & effortlessly. I can't wait to read part two!

I wish I was fabulously wealthy, I'd keep it open. There's a great need for it & it has historical significance. Has it been given historical significance? I'm sorry, I don't know the term for it in the States, I only know what's up here in Canada, a heritage house, or house/building of historical importance. Has it been deemed anything like that by the government? I know up here it opens up that place for grants & such from the government.

When so many of the wealthy would have been happy to just pocket that extra money & not thought twice about doing so, she had the kindness, the heart & presence of mind to begin contemplation of the Motion Picture Fund & create it. What a truly wonderful & generous thing to do. This is not anything anyone should ever think to destroy. Undoing the good works of another is beyond vile.

Too much of old Hollywood is gone already, too much of the era that started that city has disappeared. What's left, truly needs to stay, so that the city can always see it's origins, where it started, what it came from, who contributed to building it & the works they contributed.
