July 11th: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Anyways though I don't post many movie announcements these days I did want to post this one as its special in a much better way.  The Silent Movie Theatre is holding its first fundraiser; and in doing so they're showing the 1916 version of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

They tried to get it on the schedule a few months ago, and ended up only being able to give a nights notice of the screening so many people missed it.  Quite a rare treat!  There will also be a live score by Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields.

Tickets are $35 general admission, $120 for a '2 person' couch, and $180 for a '3 person' couch.  Dig deep people and buy lots of ice cream sandwiches!

Oh it sounds AMAZING! It seems that in the 1910's everything was so elaborate. I mean simply look at theda bara's or cb demill's films from those era's. The intricacy of the sets and costumes are stunning! Even if you look at the zeigfeld follies from the 1910's their spectacular.I guess its because the simplicity of art deco and the flapper style hadn't been fully developed, but i dont know.
