Tidbits and Updates

Working on another article for tomorrow. In the meantime here are some little Silent tidbits to enjoy:

*Terminal Sigma posted a very interesting and hilarious article on "Our Blushing Brides" (the Anita Page claim to fame)...comparing them to Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I highly recommend it.

*The "Silent Movies and Family Guy" article has been updated to include new clips and tidbits (including an infamous Simpsons one). I may update it again if it becomes relevant.

*I take back what I said about Laurel and Hardy. I believe they got funnier with time as they honed their skill. Tonight I seen 1929's "Wrong Again" which was just hilarious. I wish there was a clip online but I am unable to find one. I believe it may be the first film use of the term 'ass backwards' though those words aren't said...but very very strongly implied several times. If you see only one of their shorts Id recommend this one.

*Phantom of the Opera is on TCM tonight, Orphans of the Storm is on the 23rd, and the very very infamous Larry Semon version of "Wizard of Oz" is on the 30th. This movie was reportedly so odd and weird that well...it did his career in. Semon said, "Ah forget that book plot stuff...lets just make up gooey gags and call it a story!" I think he must have had a goo fetish...but why that would seem funny or be remotely sexual is way beyond me. Honestly I don't see his appeal, and I've seen several of his shorts. But I gotta see this! Click here for an article on the film.

*I've been very into the Fatty Arbuckle thing lately and one interesting thing I found out is there still is no movie about him (or...remotely near anything resembling him see: The Wild Party). "The Life of the Party" was widely reported to be in production and apparently was sincerely going that route...but the Writers strike killed it. The film is no longer in production and has basically been shelved. I find that a shame. Maybe Hollywood likes forgetting anything before 1930 (and that's being generous, 1950 would be more accurate) but these stories are still interesting if done right. Of course...they rarely do that ANYWAYS I guess why make a special exception...

*The Silent Movie Theatre fixed their websites. You can use either http://www.silentmovietheatre.com/ or http://cinefamily.org/ and get the same info once again. Unfortunately I missed 2 Ozu's and a shorts program that would be have been extremely interesting. Damn internets. But they have cupcakes, so they're forgiven. There are still several Harold Lloyd nights left, and 4 more Ozu's. Highly recommended.

*The Silent Film Wiki is still in dire need of attention. Unfortanitly I just dont have the time to get this going in under 50 years. So feel free to add an article (and please make it better than Wikipedia! Sources people sources!). Or even more welcome: copy edit and expand!
