Why hasn't anyone shot Kenneth Anger yet? I'm not necessarily advocating violence, I'm just saying last year he claimed during a friend's funeral he would die on Halloween 2008...and hes still here apparently. For all the lies and slander he's spread over the years I'm sure karma will be a bitch when he finally does go.
For those not in the know, Kenneth Anger was single handily responsible for 2 books titled Hollywood Babylon. Both books were written well before the computer age, and both were mostly made up. The original Hollywood Babylon is single handily responsible for slandering several silent stars, which we began debunking here. Click here for a debunking of Hollywood Babylon 2. Hollywood Babylon also slandered silent stars, single handily reducing Karl Dane to a pity note with a great amount of exaggeration.
Anger is a kook plain and simple. Valentino may have kooks, but Anger takes the cake and then some. This latest book titled, "Hollywood Babylon...It's Back" or in essence 'Hollywood Babylon 3' isn't penned by Anger...but might as well be. Perez Hilton wannabes Darwin Porter and Danforth Prince take on every Anger aspect and then some. This book can be summarized with some simple keywords: lots of penis, every famous person ever was a prostitute, and every famous person ever was gay or gay for pay.
THANKFULLY this book MOSTLY stays to the 1930s and beyond...taking only one notable low blow and its of course one that gets me going: the Valentino bullshit. A chapter on Rudolf Nureyev (who played Rudy in the 1977 disaster fantasy film: Valentino) basically rehashes the same bullshit Anger himself put in the first Hollywood Babylon. However this time we have penis pictures (sorry, they're of Nureyev), and an out and out calling of Valentino gay (Anger danced around flat out declaring it the first time), and a repeating of the 'Natacha was a lesbian' rumors.
I've already debunked these several times, but lets hit the added rumors. Hollywood Babylon 3 claims Valentino was gay with Norman Kerry and Paul Ivano (neither one is true, all 3 men were straight). It also repeats (as truth) the false dildo to Ramon Navarro story claiming Navarro later dubbed Rudy 'the love of his life'. Valentino and Navarro barely knew each other, and though Navarro was indeed gay Valentino was not. If Navarro ever went on record as saying such (this book claims so) I have yet to see it...his legitimate biographies don't mention it. Seeings how he was closeted to the hilt I doubt he'd go on record saying anything of that nature anyways.
And just for good measure: Jean Acker was gay (Rudy was oblivious at first to this...for several months...), Natacha was not though its possible she was bisexual. Whatever the case she and Rudy enjoyed a deep and passionate relationship that both always spoke fondly of after the fact. Valentino may have gotten upset when Acker locked him out, and sent her love letters once she turned him away...but he wasn't HEART BROKEN like he was with Natacha (one could say losing Natacha probably didn't help his health problems). Both seemed to believe they had reconciled while he was on his death bed, and Natacha was devastated when he passed. Not the actions of a beard if you ask me. I may have compared Natacha to the evil Queen in Snow White, but her actions later in life towards Valentino's memory were very sincere in my opinion...unlike Acker (aka "Mrs Rudolph Valentino" as she liked to bill herself...though he wasn't 'Valentino' when he married her.)
"Hollywood Babylon Revisited" is crap beyond the Rudy slandering. Apparently Lucille Ball and Marilyn Monroe were both prostitutes, and the book opens with a chapter on which stars are well hung according to legend. Honestly it couldn't be any more a piece of trash, and unlike Anger the authors can no longer claim they were unable to research any of this. What with the internets and all (and to reference above a copy of the Madame Valentino and Dark Lover biographies) it wouldn't be hard to do 5 seconds of googling before portraying something they made up as fact. This blog is more fact checked then that dribble, and I didn't make money on an advance either. They are the worst kind of people...right up there with Michelle Vogel and Russel Grahams Hodge.
Apparently the book was released in June 2008 according to Amazon, but I only seen it last weekend in Century City...and trust me I frequent bookstores a lot. It has bad reviews, though I find it funny some reviewers state how they enjoyed 'the first 2 Hollywood Babylons'. This book is by far no worse or better then the previous 2. If the words "Hollywood Babylon" are not followed by 'is crap' in the title then don't buy it. Plain and simple.
