Pickfair Auction: Pictures!

I might be terrible. I forgot to go to Mary's exhibit until Friday, the last day. But I made it! And I must say it was very interesting. And depressing (I lack a few thousand dollars to buy the things I'd die to own)...

There was a good turnout and a lot of people planning to buy. I know the first round commenced today; I'm sure it was exciting. If you find yourself with a few extra thousand dollars to spend click here for round 2 (of course you had to register to bid).

I tried to take pics of things that would be relevant/interesting though I'm sad to report I think they 'hid' these things. A lot of the photographs and scrapbooks/guestbooks were closed and heaped together so only one would be viewable. That means I was unable to spot the infamous Olive Thomas photo (to ''Aunt Lizzie'') as well as several candids and portraits of Lottie and Charlotte Smith. I did my best. Below is some of the more interesting fare. Please forgive the quality as obviously most of these items were in cases.

Once you entered the Beverly Hilton you had to walk what musta been 15 miles to get to somewhere in the back of the hotel...

However there was good reason for this. They needed a HUGE area to hold all the items. There were about 4 big rooms, and 3 smaller rooms. All just FILLED with Mary Pickford and Pickfair stuff. Oh and 2 smaller rooms for Buddy's things.

Several pictures of Charlotte Smith, Mary's beloved stage mother (who truly never gets enough credit for her business savvy)

A photo of Mary with some extra children. Id say Secrets but I don't remember a lot of kids in that movie...so I have no clue.

One of the dear 'heaps' I described. This one was said to be of candid photos from Mary and Doug's travels

This lot was said to be family photos, and I believe that's Lottie. Those nose is usually the way to tell between her and Mary.

A Pickford family picture. Its hard to go off (even in front of the case) but my guess is Doug, Mary, Charlotte, Jack, Gwynne, and Lottie

A famous photo of Mary and her mother. Really beautiful and I think a few float around online.

A girl's only photo. I have trouble seeing this one well but Mary, Lottie, Lillian and possibly Dorothy Gish are in it.

This one is really cool but hard to see in the photo. These were Doug's, and that big circle is a portrait of Mary.

Some of Mary's many scrapbooks. This one was from Spain.

I believe this is one of the guestbooks, but it wasn't the Pickfair book. I couldn't make out anyones signature of interest, but apparently several noteworthy people were in it.

I wanted that ring. If you shall happen to win it please send it to Forget the Talkies

Some Pickford opulence!

Now this was the Pickfair Guestbook. Unfortunately it wasn't opened to show how interesting it was.

Another Mama Pickford photo.

In a case of "I cant believe they really put this out where I can touch it" this is one of Mary's coats (there was another one on display. You can see it in one of the top pics) Judging by the coat alone Id say she was extremely tiny. Going off her Chinese Theatre footprint she had to have had like a size 4 or 5 shoe. No wonder she got away with the Little Girl thing so long!

More opulence. These were carved out of ivory and were just BEAUTIFUL in person.

There were several paintings for sale but this one kinda reminded me of her tombstone choice, so I thought it was of note.

A white Baby Grand from 1935. I wonder if it was her's of Buddy's (or a gift to Buddy). I'm sorry Buddy just wasn't THAT interesting...he's like her John Mayer...not worthy enough.

A nativity Faberge styled egg. Amazing!

This painting was done by Charlotte Smith. Much to my disappointment I don't believe any of Mary's own artwork was on display.

Some of the costume jewelry. Going off the catalogue I think it may have been Beverly Rogers and not Mary's...but some of Mary's was mixed in there so...I have no clue.

One of the neatest things was there were at least 2-3 lots full of Pickford-Rogers family photos. This one is very hard to make out in the photo but it was a Christmas card portrait of her, the kids, and Buddy. Since not much is known or seen of Mary's adopted kids (they seemed to disappoint sometime after she went a little crazy) I found these neat. Another one I didn't get a good pic of was one of her and a young Ronnie.

By the bathroom (don't ask me why) there were several huge portraits from her films. The space was so tiny I couldn't get anything but a close up but these pics are from there.

Another fanmade scrap book.

This was a carving from one of her films. Very neat in person.

Another scrapbook...looks more personal.

I thought this was neat. Her copy of Little Lord Fauntleroy...
