Why change your wife is possibly one of the greatest Cecil B DeMille films ever. It's got sex, witty title cards, wife swapping, and a Gloria Swanson vs Bebe Daniels catfight. Also Thomas Meighan is just excellent.
One thing I wondered when I first viewed it was who was the little Asian girl in the fashion house scene? Thomas Meighan's character finds his wife (Gloria) too prudish so he decides to go to what is apparently an Alla Nazimova run lingerie store (wonder why that is...) to purchase something to...loosen her up a little.
In this scene for all of a few seconds is a gorgeous Asian girl, who answers the door, waits on people, and apparently that is it. No one seems to have answered this question definitivly yet, so I'm putting it out there: was it Anna May Wong?
It's not impossible. Anna started her extra career in 1918 with an Alla Nazimova picture. She had a habit of hanging around sets and bugging the crew until they'd use her. Her only other known extra work is in just a few pictures, which eventually led to a Lon Chaney connection that gave her notice and eventually featured roles.
Why Change your wife was released in spring 1920 so my guess is it was filmed in late 1919. Had Anna been hanging around she definitly could have grabbed the part, as it was just a little extra role. It also seems random to me that they would have went out of their way to feature an Asian door girl for no real reason...but then again it is possible.
The girl also looks young and has the bigger eyes like Anna did, if shes not Anna then she looks very similar to her. Anna would have been 14 going on 15 at the time.
So I'm posting a few stills from the picture, which unfortainitly I feel are not as clear as they are on a big screen. Feel free to way in on this one and anyone who can prove it is or isnt Anna would be much obliged!
