Forget the Talkies Honor Projects: The List

So now that we have one completed let's update the list shall we? I will update this post as needed, to keep you up to date with the FTT Honor Projects goings on. Please help wherever you can. Some projects require nothing more then a small effort (such as the D.W. Griffith petition), some require donations (the Griffith Cenotaph project), and some require time (the Valentino Film Festival). Whatever you can do or give is appreciated. Thank you!

We pick new Honor Projects as time and need allow. If you have one or one in mind feel free to suggest it by emailing us at misspickford@forgetthetalkies.com

Active Projects

*D.W. Griffith Legacy

FTT wants to restore D.W. Griffith's unfairly tarnish legacy. As one of the greatest Directors ever Griffith has been unfairly 'removed' from history...mostly over Birth of a Nation.

To do so we have 3 small projects to Honor the Great Mr. Griffith: To restore his name to the Director's Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award, to create a Cenotaph in his honor, and to create a site for Mr. Griffith.

Start Date: July 2nd, 2008

Projected End Date: On going

*Release Kindred of the Dust

Only 13% of Miriam Cooper's films are known to survive. One of these "Kindred of the Dust" was directed by her husband Raoul Walsh (the only one of their many pairings to survive). With that in mind it has also already been restored meaning its looking pretty good (it was last screened in 2004 to my knowledge).

So to honor Miriam we'd like to see this one released on DVD (or at least screened on TCM where it could be videotaped and bootlegged for our enjoyment). TCM offers viewers a chance to suggest films and vote for home video releases. Please click here to see how you can vote for and suggest this film.

Start Date: January 29, 2009

Projected End Date: When we get our way!

*Save the Motion Picture Home and Hospital!

Help save the Motion Picture and Television Home and Hospital from idiots like Katzenberg who was swindled by Madoff and is now trying to pin it on the Fund. Click here to see how you can help.

Start Date: February 25th, 2009

End Date: When they let the old folks stay and keep the hospital open!

Completed Projects

*Anna May Wong Headstone

One of our first projects was to provide a headstone in honor of Anna May Wong as it was widely reported that her grave was unmarked and to our English eyes it did appear to be. As we began to research the best way to undertake this project (including permission from the family) a reader letter uncovered that the grave was INDEED marked...in Chinese. Something biographers and other media reports had overlooked as it was not in English.

Since the grave was indeed marked there was no further need for this project, and donations were used to place a flowers and traditional offerings on Miss Wong's grave.

Start Date: July 2nd, 2008

End Date: September 1st, 2008

*The Rudolph Valentino Film Festival

All his life Rudolph Valentino just wanted to do something artistic and be taken seriously as an actor and not just a pretty face. He didn't get his wish. After his death his fans went kooky, and any nice projects in his honor have been tarnished by Occult oddballs.

So to honor my dear Valentino, FTT is creating a Film Festival in his honor. If you would like to help please see http://therudolphvalentinofilmfestival.com/ . Though the film festival itself will not occur until May 2010 it is well underway. In addition The Rudolph Valentino Society has been created to further honor Valentino. Please see http://rudolphvalentino.org for more information.

Start Date: August 24th, 2008

Projected End Date: May 2010
