Silent Directions: Los Angeles Area

After the epic saga of trying to find UCLA's Library today I decided we need one of these. Mapquest sucks, and if your not from LA these sites can be quite trying. All my directions will begin with the 101 (the highway that will eventually lead you to where you need to go in LA). I will leave the South or North up to you depending where you are. Even if that's not relevant you should be able to use these in conjunction with any mapquest directions you get. I'll update this post as need be. For now these are the starters.

Parking tip: LA will tow your car just for fun! READ ALL PARKING SIGNS CAREFULLY and follow them to a T!

The Silent Movie Theatre
Take the 101 to the Sunset Blvd Exit
Once on Sunset continue until Fairfax and make a turn at the Rite Aid
Continue down and it'll be a bit down. It'll be on your right and it is easy to miss! The cross streets are Fairfax and Clinton (just one past Melrose).

Parking: Parking is on your left (btw you cant make a U Turn there so make note of that!) and free if you have a membership, or usually $5...sometimes its free. Otherwise there's street parking on and around Clinton.

The Egyptian Theatre/Hollywood and Highland Center
This general area has a lot so if you need to be around Hollywood and Vine go this way
Take 101 to Vine exit
Once you exit go right and this will take you to Hollywood and Vine
Make a right and go down until you see the Egyptian Theatre (its on the left). This is your general area
The Highland center is a few streets down from that and on the right. Near it is The Roosevelt, Kodak Theatre, and other things of interest.

Parking: The Egyptian has no validated parking. There are a bunch of expensive pay lots around. If you heed my warning and go at a good time you can find street parking...but you need to be BRAVE to do so. The Highland Center and Kodak Theatre have a parking structure (make a right on Highland, and its on your left) but its pricey...I believe $2 an hour...but they do some sorts of validation

Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Take 101 to the Vine exit and once exited go right
Stay on Vine till you hit Santa Monica Blvd and make a left
It will be on your right, and it is VERY easy to miss

Parking: If your just going for a visit you can park anywhere for free in the cemetery (buy a map of it, trust me its worth the $5). If you go for a Cinespia Screening I believe its $5 to park in the cemetery, otherwise there's street parking. Warning though: its a rough neighborhood...be sure you want to be walking around at midnight in the dark!

UCLA Film Library
Take 101 to the 405 South
Take the Sunset exit and go left
Stay on it till Hilgard and make a right
Make a right on Charles E Young and stay on it (its curvy!)
It'll eventually hit Westwood Plaza, make a right
The parking people are on your left, the Parking structure (#9) is on your right
You need the POWELL LIBRARY and people should be able to direct you to it (its HUGE)
The Film archive is on the second floor

Parking: They instruct you to park at structure #9. If your just a visitor the fee is $9 and there's certain spaces you can and cant park in so be careful and read everything!

Hollywood Heritage Museum
Take the 101 the Highland Avenue Exit (there will be a sign)
Go left and follow the road until Camrose. Make a left and there you are!

Parking: Make a quick left after you turn and you should be right in the parking lot! Its free which is awesome!

The Paramount Ranch
Take the 101 to Kanan Road Exit
Make a left (if you came from 101 N, right if you came from S)
Shortly after you pass the businesses there will be a hidden left, take that (Cornell Way)
Stay on this street (which curves right but you don't turn) until you see the Paramount Ranch
Its very hard to spot and easy to miss! It will be on your right

Parking: Once you enter there is free parking...in the grass!
