Silent Movie Theatre: June and July 2008

Okay by now you know I got a little Karl favoritism going on. And I'd like to say that The Silent Movie Theatre has done super good: last month we had Son of the Sheik and in August we'll get Valentino and Dane again in La Boheme, and The Eagle. The Cinefamily programmers have put together an excellent summer program, and I highly encourage anyone who can to attend. "Hula" (Clara Bow) kicked it off tonight and it was SPECTACULAR. She was a good actress, but not that good looking in my opinion. But oh my how they got that stuff past Hays I'll never know!

For a full schedule and to purchase tickets please click here for July and here for August. Or you can look to the right of our blog, where we list the silent screenings and details. Silents are screened every Wednesday at 8pm.

July 08: Silent Sirens

SPECTACULAR PROGAM coming up here! I just wish Olive coulda been included, but apparently her prints are very hard to get a hold of so they did good anyways.

My top pick for the month: "Why Change your wife?" on July 9th. It stars Gloria Swanson, Thomas Meighan (who is awesome), and the amazing Bebe Daniels. Directed by Cecil B. DeMille. OH and this is one of those films Natacha Rambova worked on but Kosloff took credit for. Let's see how much it shows!

August 08: Silent Studs

Another great month as well! Possibly better than the ladies, but since all these films are spectacular it's hard to really nitpick. I'll say I don't look forward to Ben Hur...mainly because I side with June Mathis on this one... But the rest is pure gold!

My top pick for the month: I think you know already. La Boheme on August 13th stars John Gilbert, Lillian Gish, and of course Karl Dane who I hear is spectacular in it. King Vidor directs, and I love him so it shall be fab!

And of course this had to be a double pick. THE EAGLE on August 17th is of course the crowning piece on a great summer of programming. After Valentino Month you'd think I'd be worn out but I'm not. The Eagle is one of this best films, and Miss Vilma Banky is also in it. Some great camera work too! Oh and no Natacha costumes!
