Silent Films Wiki

I haven't posted about this or on this in awhile but attention must be paid! The kinda folks at Wikia.com were generous enough to give us a Silent Films Wiki (or as they call it Silent Film Wikia). You can check it out at http://silentfilms.wikia.com/ and as always its on the right side of our screen under Affiliates.

Its like Wikipedia only not as evil since I have to stop vandalism and don't need to rely on 180 Wikipedia admins to daddle while a page looks like crap. Funnily enough this blog was started out of annoyance with Wikipedia, as I would write up a bunch of great Silent Film Biographies only to have them destroyed by vandals or well meaning editors who don't know a damn thing about Silent Film (June Mathis' and Anna May Wong's pages are a good example of this). OR when they claimed they wanted less information...which is silly.

What made me even madder was when the Silent Film Wiki was in place and Id post my entries on both sites (such as Thomas Meighan and Karl Dane) and then be told I couldn't link the Silent Film Wiki...just because I had posted the entries seconds apart they claimed Wikipedia had it first. In either case I wrote both biographies on both sites. I don't necessarily want a pat on the back or anything but it is annoying to spend 5-7 hours on researching, linking, and writing a biography only to be told forget trying to build a comprehensive Silent Film Wiki. I don't even bother on Wikipedia anymore.

Unfortunately given how much time it takes to write up an entry I haven't got to write many lately. Natacha Rambova was the last one for Sheik Week. I really REALLY want to do one on Gloria Swanson. And Bebe Daniels, Nita Naldi, D.W. Griffith, and a more comprehensive one on Mary since its the 'edited Wiki style' (I didn't write that one at all).

And that is why I am reminding you there is a Silent Film Wiki. One person alone can not write and edit a WHOLE 'encyclopedia' of Silent Film...at least...within a decade! Doesn't mean I wont try but any help or new articles would be greatly appreciated. Beyond biographies I wanted to do up pieces on everything related to Silent Film...for example mansions like Falcon Lair, the bit players, the technology, etc. Some people would be way more knowledgeable then I ever could dream to be on those subjects.

It's a big mission but someone's gotta do it! So come on...let's do it!
