Silent Ebay Watch: A Sainted Devil, Nita and Mary face off, and Gloria gets ugly

Silent Ebay Watching is becoming quite a chore! Too much stuff! But it is quite fun. Tons of Valentino, a little Anna, some rare Gloria, and Nita made a rare appearance! For past Silent Ebay Watches click here!

Window Card Madness
After some strong showings from Valentino and Olive last watch, there was a slew of interesting window promo cards up this go. A promo card from Olive's "The Spite Bride" went for $33. It was a bad week for Mary cards: a card for "Secrets" was listed at $35 but didn't sell, and later a card for "Dorothy Vernon of Haddon Hall" went for only $12.50. A really cool Gloria Swanson card for "What a Widow" went for $43. That's the movie Kennedy wrote (and she thought was shit) and also starred Mary's ex husband Owen Moore and Mabel's last husband Lew Cody.

Gloria's Old Lady Designs
One of Gloria's post movie careers was a designer for an off the rack line of 'frumpy women's' clothes. I.e. not for the svelte fashionable things, but as Gloria put it 'people like her dear little mother'. Sales went through the roof (I believe 110% the first year) and she continued designing successfully for the company for 20 years. As cool as this may sound the clothes weren't anything to write home about. As you can see above this ensemble was offered on Ebay complete with a cool box, and only went for $20.49. Sorry Miss Swanson...but not...attractive.

Mary's Big Photo
An 11X14 photo of Mary went for $499. I have no clue WHY its worth that much...but okay. Nice photo though.

Nita's Autograph
Mary's photo wasn't autographed (though there is a $400 autograph of hers currently floating around, down from $900) but this one of Nita Naldi was. It went for $442 after a fierce bidding war. That would actually place her only second to Mabel in last watches 'autograph war'. There isn't a lot of Nita stuff out there to grab...but this was seriously a gorgeous piece.

A Sainted Devil Pieces
There has been for some inexplicable reason, a lot of Sainted Devil stuff as of late. This program for the film went for $19. But most interesting of all is this replica poster for a Valentino revival thing in the 80s. It lists the film was starring "Rudolph Valentino and Bebe Daniels". Given A Sainted Devil is a lost film...well...they cant be super blamed. But Bebe Daniels was not in A Sainted Devil...Nita Naldi was. Even more confusing the women pictured definitely resembles Daniels over Naldi...so...they must have been REALLY confused and did not go off any old promo pictures. It was listed at $9.99 with $17.99 for shipping...no one bought it.

Merry Xmas from Anna May Wong
An old Xmas card from Anna May Wong was listed for $130. No one bit.
