Silent Ebay Watch: Mabel takes the crown, Olive in second, and a little Valentino

Dearest Ebay listers: I love you. Please never stop being entertaining.

That being said this watch is one of the most interesting yet. There was a real autograph race for the top with Mabel Normand winning, then Olive (but in a technicality), then Theda. All autographs went for well over $200 which is the average silent star price (and take note: Theda did not die young like the other 2). Unfortunately for weird items we don't have anything to top the 'haunted Valentino Wax Figure' but we definitely have some weird Rudy items (as always). And just a smidge of cool Mary artifacts!

Theda Bara Autograph

This one was listed right after the other one. The last one went for about $140. This one (for unknown reasons) went for double that at $362.99. Why I don't know. But there was a hell of a bidding war. Theda came in third this week for the autograph race, but it should be noted Olive Thomas cheated ;).

Olive Thomas Autograph

As far as this item goes, it is above and beyond a normal Olive autograph. Apparently it was signed to her brother, as 'Sissie'. Cute! Her autographs generally go for about $200...and this one would technically be on par. It sold for $200. BUT the seller...for reasons I am not fully comprehending (other than possibly sheer genius) put $200 in handling fees. So in short it was a $400 autograph. Theda only charged $3 for her shipping and handling. Thus why she lost. By a hair.

Mabel Normand Autograph

Miss Mabel's stuff goes for a lot of money on Ebay. Her fans are hardcore. Well not $8,000 hardcore. For an autographed picture and a letter Mabel won this battle at $620 with a bidding war that rivaled Theda's!

Way Overpriced Valentino Photo

Yes Valentino is gorgeous to look at. Yes I would give good money to stare at him. But I just cant understand why a 'modern 8X10 glossy print' of him is worth $49. Apparently no one else did either.

Valentino Original Sheik Lobby Card

In a cooler twist someone had an original lobby card from The Sheik listed. As you'll see with Olive later these things tend to go maybe $50-$100. Not Valentino. This one went for $895 (well over $900 when you figure in shipping)! Hot damn someone must have been excited by Sheik Week!

"Coquette" Premiere Invitation

I thought this was pretty cool. Unfortunately no one else agreed with me. This was an invitation card for the LA premiere of 'Coquette'. They wanted only $25 but no bidders.

Vilma Banky Costume Sketch

I thought this was cool too. And again no one agreed with me (if you're wondering why I didn't snap them up I have my funds heavily invested in some Pickford and Olive mags at the moment). This was a sketch made for the costume in one of Vilma Banky's movies. However with a lot of her films lost and my unfamiliarity with them I have no clue which one. Still cool. They wanted $9.99. No one wanted it.

Olive Thomas Lobby Card

Someone had a lobby card for Olive's last film "Everybody's Sweetheart". Olive may have the kooks, but she cant rival Valentino here. It only went for $56.
