Unfortunately early this year young actor Heath Ledger passed away. One of his final films, "The Dark Knight" was rumored to break records left and right. And indeed it did. The level of fandom definitely reminds me of Sheik Mania, what would have been going on after Valentino died. I wish there were some good statistics so we could know just how Son of the Sheik did indeed gross but I don't believe anyone knows for sure (it was rereleased theatrically several times, so those totals would have to be added).
MSN.com recently did a piece inspired by Ledger about stars who's deaths were well...morbidly...box office gold. Click here to check it out! At least they got most of their Valentino info right (he didn't ALWAYS play Arabs, and that wasn't his point of contention but still). Wow Mary on a cover and Valentino on MSN! What a week!
