So July is almost here...and some major silent screenings are occurring here in California! My apologies to the rest of the country...but we truly rock in this area. If you can make a trip out this summer I'd highly suggest it.
Anyways on of the upcoming field trips will be to the Hollywood Heritage Museum. It's pretty cool: situated across from the Hollywood Bowl and is the actual barn Cecil B DeMille shot the second film ever filmed in Hollywood (sorry guys...D.W. beat you...just took many years for us to realize that). Lots of silent memorabilia but they also do two things that make them just amazing in my eyes. The first would be their fight for preservation of Hollywood's past. See Hollywood has a very short term memory...and bulldozing historic buildings has been en vogue since the late 80s when skanky Pia Zadora (pre cursor to Paris Hilton...take note Paris) destroyed Pickfair for fun. Falcon Lair was destroyed just a few months ago and several other major buildings have been done away with. Apparently Hollywood likes to destroy buildings EVEN WHEN THEY ARE LEGALLY PROTECTED! MADDENING! So click those links, learn how to help out and where to express your outrage.

On a lighter note, they also have 'The Silent Society' which puts together occasional silent screenings. This summer they present 'Silents under the Stars' which will take place at the Paramount Movie Ranch in Agoura Hills, CA. On July 20th at 8pm they will screen Clara Bow's "Hula" and on August 17th at 7:30pm they will screen Louise Brook's "Love em and leave em". Both films will have live accompaniment.
If you are interested in joining up with The Silent Society please send them an email at silents@hollywoodheritage.org . If you join up you will receive a newsletter with the latest Silent Film news (from all over the world), and the latest Silent screening news (again from all over the world). Very cool stuff!
